Where's Steve?
What's up with this Indian Summer, or lack of?
One of the things I like about my company is how relatively young most of my co-workers are. It helps keep the mood mercifully light, especially when I'm stressing over some high-priority project.
A co-worker started throwing a paper airplane around the office, and as I stood up watching with a fat grin on my face, it sailed into someone else's cube and hit a co-worker square in the side of the head. At that point, I started cracking up... I guess I'll never outgrow my juvenile sense of humor, eh? ;p
During a rain and thunderstorm the other day, it was amusing to see like half the company get up and migrate to the windows at the first sound of thunder and fall of rain. I'm not sure whether to attribute that to the magical lure of raindrops against a window... or everyone looking for an excuse to take a break from work, haha.

Speaking of remaining a kid at heart: I went to a cafe for lunch late the other day. I stood there staring at the menu trying to decide between the daily specials, and with a sheepish grin apologized to the cashier for taking so long. She had spikey, close-cropped hair, big eyes, and a CUTE smile! Man, I think it was the smile that got to me more than anything else, haha. While waiting for my food, she engaged me in some conversation:
Her: "Do you work in the building?"
Me: "Umm.. no, but I work in the area." (so far, so good)
(Silence)
Her: "We make our soups fresh, daily." (big, cute smile)
Me: (I forget what exactly I said... but I tried to be slick and witty, but what came out was completely stupid) "... yeah, I was in the mood for soup... so I tried to think of what place near work served soup... and umm, yeah... came here for soup..."
(Silence)
Me: "Sorry for taking so long, haha (dorky laugh)... I couldn't decide between the pork loin sandwich and the pasta, haha."
Her: "Oh, the pastas here are good... but the pork loin sandwich (what I ordered) is my favorite!" (smile)
Me: "Oh really? Cool! I'm looking forward to trying it!" (what the heck am I babbling about??)
(At this point, I notice her co-workers giving her and me subtle glances, which makes me feel more self-conscious...)
I get my food, and try to give her my best smile as I say "good bye" and leave. Man, I thought by the stage in my life, I had gotten past that whole stupid shy, dorky phase... but I guess not! Smooth Steve, smooth... *sigh* =)

Anyone interested in going to an A's game (against the Angels)?
