Anyong Haseyo (How YOU Doin? ;))

Another reason why I love wahine's blog, besides all the reality TV and food talk, is all the Asian news that I'd otherwise miss out on:

Apparently next week's episode of Are You Hot? will feature a few asians, including the hot Janet and Brandy (not quite as cute as Janet, but... need I say more? =p)! Guess what I'll be watching/recording? =D

Also, check this out: Korean booking clubs. How... interesting. It works something like this: you go to these clubs ($200/table, not including additional drinks), you point out a girl(s), and the waiter brings her over, you guys drink and chit-chat, and proceed from there. In some ways, it's both less and more weird than trying to pick up ladies at a club. I dunno though... the whole thing sounds kinda shady, and can't help but think that the chances of meeting a "nice gf-type" is a lot less than at clubs? Still, kinda intriguing I guess. =)

And last but not least, go Ernie for being a finalist on The Weakest Link! You fame whore... you've come a long way since that lounge singer act for TNT as a pledge! ;) ...I agree with evil; best outfit by far!

Hungryyyy...

From the Who Gives a Damn file, #369: So I'm sitting here in the computer lab, impatiently waiting for my next class to start end, so I can get some food! I'm so craving Japanese/Hawaiian food right now, it's not even funny! Mmmm.... okonomiyaki (anyone have suggestions on where to get good ones? Sapporo-ya in Jtown makes them OK.. which is better than most others I've tried), katsu curry, loco moco... so many choices, so little stomach space/money. =(

Besides Sapporo-Ya, other decent-good Japanese restaurants I like (in the Jtown mall) are: Mifune (specializes in noodles, but portions are a tad small), Takara (more upscale/pricy, but a lot of traditional dishes/sides you won't find elsewhere), On the Bridge (Japanese-style "western" food.. a tad pricy and heavy, but still yummy), and Sanppo Restaurant (located outside the mall, on Post Street).

Otherwise, for a cheap/quick fix, there's Kamemeshi House (off Westborough Blvd.), Chinese-owned-Japanese-restaurant#967 on like 2nd and Geary...

BTW, I retract my earlier comments about L&L... the food is comparable to Hawaiian Drive Inn #28, but when you order the "regular" sized plates, instead of just getting an extra scoop of rice, L&L gives you that plus a WHOLE lot more food! We're talking monstrous quantities here! =D

P.S. Just in case you somehow survived the initial blast, or subsequent fallout of a nuclear attack, you should know that State Farm doesn't cover nuclear attacks! Good neighbor, my ass!

Memories

Managed to upload some of the pics... still in the process of sorting them all out though. Most of them are circa 1997-99ish, so still a little after my time. =(

Although some of you newer APhiO people will recognize more recent "old schoolers" like Rox, Tony Toy, Minh, etc.

Speaking of old school (but still very much young at heart and looks!), guess who this PLEDGE is in the bottom right of this pic? =)

Roger dancing
Sunny being a dork as always
F97 Banquet - 'Old School Shot'
Daddy Royce and Pledge Spokesperson
Rare footage of Anna
Plaid Pantry - WML! (WhatEVER major loser!)
Check out the sexy voting delegate on the bottom left! ;p
1996 Region X Delegates.. take my word for it!
Hi James! (notice the PLEDGE pin?)
Exhausted voting delegates
Ray Warriner, "I'm a child molestor" facial hair years (j/k!) ;p
Ch-ch-Chaya and me (wow, I had hair!)
Proof that non-asians exist in UC APhiO chapters! ;p

BONUS:
Ernie pretends not to enjoy being straddled by a half-nekkid guy
Errr....yuck.

Nada

Still busy, sick, and sleep-deprived as usual. So much to get done and study for before this weekend. =(

Had an enjoyable weekend though: had a GRAND fun time hanging out with everyone friday night -- Jenn, you're silly for walking around that part of SF by yourself at 6ish AM! =x

After that, went to a big celebration dinner for my grandfather's 80th birthday -- I finally got to wear my collarless jacket that I picked up from HK (think Jet Li! hehe ;p), and despite having to wear a black shirt with it (my only collarless =/ Thanks for the fashion advice, JJ! ;)) people seemed to like it.

I'm upset that I forgot to bring my digital camera with me though; now I have to wait for other people to upload and email me their pics. =(

Speaking of pics, I just downloaded a whole bunch of old Iota Phi pics from the old website... I'll try to post them up when I have the time. You old schoolers have to see them! =D

And speaking of old school (don't you love all the cleverly set-up segues? haha), after that dinner my cousins and I watched the movie... stupid funny as you'd expect; I think Will Farrell's performance really made the movie work. =)

Here's the result of one of those silly online quizzes... you know I had to do it because it was car-related: ;p

You are a Honda del Sol. You like spontaneous
people and having lots of fun. Your idea of a
great night would be seeing lots of people who
adore you and dancing until you couldn't stand
up anymore. You love driving, but hate people
who ride with their blinkers on. You think
you'll always be happy as long as you're having
fun and living a good, independent life.

What kind of car are you?

Goalllllllllll....

Hahaha, Scott's entries always make for a great laugh/read! The VS thing is soooo true; every time I shopped for stuff in there, it was always such a huge ordeal keeping my eyes staring straight ahead, with the most stoic, disinterested face I could put on. ;p

This Bruce Lee thing is kinda amusing...

So, I'm sure you're all wondering how I did tonight, right? =)

Well, yours truly stopped about 30ish shots! Only problem is, I faced 45... (compared to our 24 attempts) DOH! Yeah, we got rocked pretty hard; about half the guys couldn't make it to last night's game. I felt fairly comfortable in my blades/gear, but I was definitely rusty and out of game shape. I had to call a timeout in the second half because I was about to pass out!

All in all, despite the horrible save percentage (~67%), I'm somewhat encouraged by my performance. I let in ~5 garbage goals (e.g., goals that trickle in between my pads, goals due to plain sloppiness/poor technique on my part), and ~6 "poor conditioning" goals -- goals on fast wraparounds, rebounds, etc. that I should and would have stopped had I been fresh.

On the upside, I was able to see and follow the puck pretty well, and stopped ~90% of all initial/first shots (although, you're expected to do this... pretty embarrassing to get beat by a long slapshot or something) -- and had a couple of awesome series. We're talking about ESPN highlight stuff! Hehe. =)

But, bottom line is... I'm the last line of defense, and I couldn't pull through for the team. Sorry guys. =(

I've always loved playing roles like goalie and free safety. You're the last line of defense, and all the pressure is on your shoulders to prevent the other team from scoring. If they do score, even if it's not your fault per se (e.g., defensive breakdown, and you're facing a 3 on 1, and they score on a rebound), you're always the first to blame. You also never really get the glory -- everyone knows who scored that TD or goal, but how many remember the spectacular 5 saves in a row, or timely defended pass to preserve the win?

But I'll let you in on a secret: I don't think there's any bigger rush than making that difficult save -- the ones that energize your team, while demoralizing the opponent... but then again, I guess you have to be pretty strange to enjoy having pucks fly at you from everywhere at like 70+ mph! =)

Man... I totally miss playing hockey (and team sports in general). Times like that where I have no time to feel self-conscious or anything like that! Hehe.

P.S. Man, I forgot how much hockey players (including myself) REEK after games. Seriously, there's no worse stench/BO than that of hockey players, post game. *gag* =x

Reality TV Ramblings

Have you been following the Real World? Man, is Alton a confused little bitch or what? He says one thing while his actions totally indicate something else, is deluding himself to the point where he feels like the victim... and damn, can you say "displaced anger?"

And here I thought Steven would be the scumbag of the show... ahh well, there's still lots of Real World left to go, we'll see. =)

Are you ready for a new season of Sorority Life? IMO, they should do a season or 5 of the Asian sororities, like KDPhi and SOPi... you know my ass would be recording/watching that religiously! Hahaha...;p

...I conquered my PAMness (Passive Asian Male), at least for this morning... that's all I'll say for now. =D

To anyone who's watched Il Mare, read on: (spoilers warning)

OK, after watching both Il Mare and Yupki Girl yet again, I think I'm going to have to give the nod/recommendation to Il Mare as best romantic movie. Are you happy, evil?!?! ;)

The characters in Il Mare seem more lovable/identifiable with than My Sassy Girl and My Dopey Guy (thanks Lin =p)... although I'd still love to have My Own Sassy-ish Girl! hehe...

Anyway, the ending still bugs me; but here are 3 proposed alternate endings by my friend: (in order of preference)

1) He DIES...
She is FUCKED UP...
That would be so PERFECT!
Life is like that sometimes...

Hmm...
Why is Romeo and Juliet such a great play?
Because there is such tragedy in it...
Just like real fucking life...
Am I bitter?
Just a little

2) He shows up at the mailbox when she is there crying...
That way:
a) She has gotten to know him (thru mail)
b) She REALIZES how much he actually means to her because she has gone thru the trauma of killing him...
She LOVES him
c) She has gotten over her ex
This is VERY IMPORTANT...
Her ex has been driving her for a long time...

3) He actually showed up on the beach that day...
That way:
a) She has gotten to know him (thru mail)
b) She likes him...
But:
b')She does not know if she LOVES him yet...
c) Nor is she over her ex...

The way it ended...
Seriously...
a) She does not know who the heck he is:
How does he expect her to believe his hokey story?
b) She does NOT like or love him:
How does he expect her to fall in love with him when they do not go thru the whole thing?!?
c) She is NOT over her ex...
In fact, she just broke up with him!!!
She is not gunna like being chased by some 'other guy' until she is over the ex!!!

In fact, if they never go thru the whole thing, I do not think they could have as good of a relationship...
Seriously, I am a firm believer in the idea of:
Right girl, right guy, wrong time...
Or in this case: wrong circumstances...
People may be right for each other...but if they meet at the wrong time/stage in their lives...
Or if they do not go thru certain moments that end up defining their relationship...
It will end up that they do not get together...

Hmm...
I guess I am mad because I thought it was a MORONIC play on the part of the guy...
BAD MOVE!

February 19, 2003

You, sir, are a b*tch!

Let me get the light-hearted stuff out of the way first: thanks to the efforts of my awesome lil sis, Steph, the Iota Phi site is reborn! God... I can't tell you how many memories this site brings back... I remember working with Ernie and Mike (among others...although it really was all Ernie and Mike =)) on this website like 6-7 years ago! All the awards and accolades the site received for being such a kickass site back in the day!

As I'm going through the site, I realize how valuable a resource it still is today: the very informative sections on Parlimentary Procedures, Iota Phi history, and... the infamous discussion group.

Man... that discussion group caused soooo much drama back in the day! Hahaha... too bad it only goes back to 1998; there's only a few posts by me in there. ;)

Sigh... now you know I'm going to have to go through my old UCD photo albums... hehe. Oh, and for old time's sake: BAH! =)

So there's this imaginary guy, let's call him "dad" for kicks, and this imaginary girl, called "mom." I was driving mom to the airport, when she tells me of a conversation she had with "dad" last night.

She asked him if he could drive her to the airport tonight, so she wouldn't have to take the shuttle over. He responded by asking: "What about your sons?"

She explained that, as he already should know (if he actually was around) that my younger brother isn't comfortable driving on the freeway, and that I might be busy (again) with meetings or work. He dismissed all this with: "I don't know how you raise your sons." (That would probably make more sense in Chinese)

I couldn't help but give a dry, caustic laugh at that. How bitterly ironic that he, of all people, raises issues about our upbringing? Us, who might have actual issues/work, over someone who most likely will not come "home," spending time instead with "that other woman?" What valid excuse does he have? NONE.

Moreover, how dare he question my mom's upbringing of us? My mom always was there for us, never stopped caring, never abandoned us for other people. Yes, I really wish I could be more like my dad: lie, cheat, slap my wife... yes sir, family values at their finest!

I get really disappointed when I think about how much I felt like I lived under my dad's shadow; how much I wanted to get out and surpass him. I got my black belt in hapkido so I could feel tougher in his presence. He was a successful long-distance/soccer athlete, I decided to do sprinting/soccer/football/hockey. He received his BS in EECS from Cal and criticized my math skills when I was a kid... I swore I would never ask him for help ever again, and surpass him.

All this... but I realized today how unnecessary it was. I am more of a man than my dad will ever be. Thanks dad, for making me feel stupid for having ever defended your actions!

Butterflies...

Looks like I'll be filling in as goalie ("signed" to a 1 game contract, woohoo!) for Jason tomorrow at the Bladium. I'm pretty damn nervous because his team (lots of old school UCD and Lowell people) is skilled, tied for first, and I haven't been on skates/blades -- let alone played -- in years!

Plus, my gear actually is ice hockey goalie equipment, so it's a lot heavier than the inline stuff... add the fact that I'm pathetically out of game any shape, and man... can we say disaster in the making?

My worst fear is that I'll trip over my own blades, be completely winded... oh yeah, and make the team lose. *sigh*

Yeah, I know I'm psyching myself out... I mean honestly, I'm still very excited about playing tomorrow. Obviously, I hope I do well -- both for the team and myself. But about the only thing I have going for me right now are my reflexes... and love for playing goalie/defense.

I think I'll be OK once I get on the ice and take a few slapshots; get a feel for the puck against my body and all.

Anyway, if you want to watch me embarrass myself OWN the other team, our game's tomorrow at 7pm! Wish me luck! =)

Boom Boom Room

Well, not exactly (next time... *grin*), but JJ and I sure did a lot of hot, spicy... eating last night! Too bad the place got so smoky so fast, eh? *wink wink nudge nudge*

How was that meat JJ? As good for you as it was for me? ;p

So since Jenn had never eaten at a real Korean restaurant before, we went to Brothers for some good ol' kal bi, jap chae, soju, and conversation! =) Despite being about to pass out from hunger, *cough* I still managed to remember this quote:

J: "(psst) Hey, check out those guys over there: they're HELLA red-faced! Damn, homeboys can't hang... I could totally outdrink their asses!"

Hahaha... anyway, it was cool seeing/hearing JJ relaxed for a few hours, instead of her usual state of high stress/anxiety. ;)

After that, went to hang out with some high school friends... but they had already finished watching Hero and Musa, so I just napped hung out for a few hours.

Oh, finally tried a Portuguese Egg Tart from the Irving St. Shang Kee... ehh, it was OK. Good, but not even close to the ones from Vancouver/HK. (I know, duh!)

The way we were?

I met up with Will, Sam, Milz, J, Clarissa, and... err, some others tonight at D&B in honor of Valentine's Day! Let me just get this out of my system now: DAMN, there were lots of hot ladies there tonight! First and foremost being the three very FINE ladies in our party, of course! And almost all the ladies at D&B were dressed niiiiiiiiiice! I was in simultaneous disbelief and admiration! (Sorry Justin, they all seemed to be with someone already!) Hehe. ;p

I mean, seriously... who wouldve guessed D&B to be such a happening place on Valentine's Day? Go figure...

So I hung out by the Street Fighter 2 machine to watch some random guys play. I couldn't help but chuckle while looking around at all these guys in their late 20s, reliving high school memories.

I could totally imagine these guys playing back then, too -- just replace the expensive brand-name clothes with fobby, colorful shirts and Z Cavariccis, the cel phones with bulky pagers, the beers with vitasoy milk (or something), and have quarters instead of Power Cards lined up on the machine. =p

For the record, I went through the same wannabe-fob phase too: had the tail and all! Hahaha....*wince*

And in tribute to my past "fobbiness," I had to play Ken and kick their asses off the machine! *shoryuken* ;)

I'll take clueless for $1000, please.
Me: "So Clarissa, are you an officer this term?"
Clarissa: "..."
Will: "What are you talking about?"
Me: "Weren't you running for some office?"
C: "..."
W: "Umm, hello? Salt. Wounds?!"
Me (to self): "Crap, DOH!!!"
Everyone else: "..."

It's the thought that counts!

For whatever reasons (probably lack of sleep ;)), I found these snippets of conversation with Czrena really funny. She probably thinks I'm a dork for posting them, but whatever!

"Hey honey, here's your gift... mind if I borrow it?"

Cz (11:00:57 PM): i also got him something else.
Cz (11:01:00 PM): let me find it on line
BeefcakeGT (11:02:37 PM): nice!!!
BeefcakeGT (11:02:46 PM): *drool*
Cz (11:02:53 PM): i like it.
Cz (11:02:55 PM): i want to use it
Cz (11:03:01 PM): i wonder if i'll like it more than him.
BeefcakeGT (11:03:07 PM): hahahah
Cz (11:03:12 PM): i've been eyeing it a while..
Cz (11:19:26 PM): i think we can use this thing as a fundraiser for the banquets

I love how refreshingly blunt CZ is: =)

BeefcakeGT (11:57:21 PM): as for treating u, i'll treat u to the pleasure of my company! it's priceless! ;p
BeefcakeGT (11:57:28 PM): or for your BD or something, hehe
Cz (11:57:39 PM): hehe
BeefcakeGT (11:57:45 PM): u should be treating me, since i'm the guest!!
Cz (11:58:08 PM): see.
Cz (11:58:13 PM): this is what will happen
Cz (11:58:22 PM): i will show you around as your host
Cz (11:58:36 PM): u will appreciate my company
Cz (11:58:40 PM): i will offer to pay for dinner
Cz (11:58:47 PM): u will object..and offer to pay
Cz (11:58:51 PM): we will squarrel
Cz (11:59:05 PM): u will say, i'll pay for this, and when you go up to visit me, u can treat me..
Cz (11:59:08 PM): then i will agree.
Cz (11:59:12 PM): that is how it will go.
BeefcakeGT (11:59:23 PM): ....omg, hahaha
Cz (11:59:30 PM): but its o so true!

This week's Friday Five seemed interesting, so here are my responses:

1. Explain why you started to journal/blog.
It seemed like a fun, convenient way to rant/express myself, and to let friends keep in touch with aspects of my life.

2. Do people you interact with day to day or family members know about your journal/blog? Why or why not?
Yes, why not? For lazy asses like myself, this allows me to share my thoughts/experiences with people, without having to repeat myself over and over.

3. Do you have a theme for your journal/blog?
Nope.

4. What direction would you like to have your journal/blog go in over the next year?
I like it the way it is. Simple, and functional. I'd like to take/post more pictures though.

5. Pimp five of your favorite journals/blogs.
Err... they're all my favorites! (Yeah, cheesy "out" answer.. bite me! ;p) But here are three off the top of my head:
Scott/MedeaSin
Ernie/LittleYellowDifferent
Evil Wahine

P.S. I'm going to cry if I hear the words JINI, RMI, and Distributed Networks anymore today!!!

So wrong...

...yet funny: A-Safe-Way Asian Women's Driving School! Thanks Ray for the link! =)

Also, check out the CHINESE Lord of the Rings! Hahaha... it probably won't be too funny if you don't watch HK movies though.

I was driving back home along Sunset Blvd, staring off into the sky... and realized how much I just wanted to keep on driving, windows and sunroof open, and get away from it all. To just drive down Highway 1 (to indulge my *ahem* "ricer tendencies".. ;)), and let the road take me where it may. Then again, with my luck, I'll probably be stuck in traffic the entire time!! =)

Just so tired of work, of classes, of being tired... I'm starting to feel too tightly wound up (again), and I hate it! ...I finally reached my block, contemplated driving on for a brief second... before turning and heading on home.

Responsibility sucks! =( *sigh*

Good Eatin'

Thanks to AE, I've discovered the Asian food joy that is Mission Plaza Shopping Center! Milpitas Square (aka The Great Asian Mall of Milpitas), eat your heart out! Well... close enough: there's a Jollibee's, TK Noodle House, Red Ribbon Bakery and Starbucks in the area. =)

I stopped by to try L&L Hawaiian Barbecue... compared to my current fave, Hawaiian Drive Inn #28, L&L is a tad pricier, gives slightly smaller portions... but has a larger menu selection (average musubi), and their curry katsu chicken is yummy! For a quick loco moco fix though, I'd stick to Hawaiian Drive Inn.

Sooo stuffed... although, maybe I should stop by Shang Kee on Irving Street to pick up some Portugese Egg Tarts??? =D

...And what better to go with good food than some music? TaTu - All The Things She Said... like Avril Lavigne's Complicated, the music line is simple, yet really catchy! Right click, and "save as..." please. =)

Carpe Diem

Steph mentions doing a "highs/lows of the day" thing each night at the dinner table, a la The Story of Us. I've never seen the movie, but I think this is a great idea.

We already see it in our generation -- people responding to "how was your day" type of questions with an apathetic shrug or "It was OK." And with more kids and families used to having a TV on at the dining table -- mine is no different -- and/or raised with computers as a primary means of communication, this problem is easily exacerbated.

Those who know me -- or have read my old entries -- know that my immediate family is largely estranged. We still do stuff together, and there is an underlying bond between us all... but when I look at other families, I envy that... easy affection they share.

When I have my own family, I want to do everything I can to foster those same warm, open affectionate feelings.

Going back to the highs/lows deal.. well, I think Steph says it best:
"I think that's really cool, it really makes you reflect on the experiences of the day, and supposing it was a really bad day, it forces you to see a silver lining, appreciate something small. "

*sigh* The only problem with this is I have to write my experiences down; otherwise, I'll probably forget everything by the time I have a chance to share them! Sad, yet true! =x Hehe, I'm sure JJ can relate, right? ;D

Hmm, speaking of sad yet true: I just realized the other day that I'm literally the only cousin -- on both sides of the family -- who's still single! ...Well, not counting the babies/kids, duh. No, this isn't going to be some Valentine's Day rant -- I've never been bitter about that sorta thing -- just something I found kinda interesting/amusing. *shrug* =)

Ahh well, Happy Valentine's/SAD (Singles Awareness Day), everyone!

xoxo, Steve

Monday Blahs

It's kinda funny that no matter how busy, stressed, sick, or sleepy I am, I can always find time to be bored! I'm too easily bored, and factor in my impatience, laziness and well... that's me. *sigh*

I can stare at the computer screen for over 48 hours (more or less) coding or playing games, but fall asleep at a friend's place as soon as the movie's over and/or they start chatting about random things. Or I have to keep myself awake by doing homework while we're all chatting. I know... it seems rude, but if I don't keep my brain active, it just shuts down completely!

Similarly, if I'm speaking with someone, I either need to feed off visual cues (e.g., facial expressions, emotions), pace, gesture, shake my leg, or fidget with a pencil or something... if I'm perfectly still, chances are I'm feeling quite uncomfortable... or dead! Hehe. This is probably why I dislike phone calls so much... I feel way more comfortable talking in person or over IM!

Stephen sent me this game, which I'm sure most CS people will recognize. (Winning algorithm hint: binary and XOR) The annoyingly evil, taunting laugh cracked me up...

I'm not sure if that's a by-product of being easily bored, but I'm also very easily amused. =p Hmm... nevermind, that just comes from being a big dork! Hehe.

Gotta go ... I'm making fajitas and enchiladas for dinner. Fairly simple, but yummy! =D Plus, it's not Italian, which I tend to cook too often!

Ahhh, I love food! Hehe. And boy, this was a really random entry! ;p

P.S. Just got my cel phone bill for New Orleans... looks like I don't have free nationwide roaming! Owwww....=x

Mixed Signals

"Oh Super Steve and Gamma Gamma as well as I-Phi will be here Friday! I'm excited now! =o) Just don't get lost! Hee, hee..."

Haha, you can guess what happened last night. JJ, you definitely owe me another dinner for that... let's have it at the... BOOM BOOM ROOM! *bowm chicka bowm bowm* Hehe. ;p

After a longggggg drive in constant traffic, I finally made it to Stockton for Alpha Alpha... Times 1's pinning ceremony, followed by a very... entertaining dinner at Old Spaghetti Factory. Hehe. It was great seeing Henry, Jazzy Jenn, Minh, Ann and Celia again. *wink wink nudge nudge* ;D

So on the drive back home to SF (which just took 55 minutes, thank God! *grin*), I have the cruise control set to 90ish 65 (hi officer!) when I see a highway patrol car on the right shoulder, with some poor SOB pulled over. I immediately try to disable the cruise control stalk, but accidentally flash my highbeams instead!

Mind you, I'm on some dark, God-forsaken stretch of 205 West... so the brief flash pretty much lights up the entire area! I immediately blurt out: "Oh crap, what the hell am I doing??"

Anyway, so I immediately slow down and move over one lane to the right. Sure enough, within like 5 minutes some highway patrolcar speeds down the right lane... and pulls over some other car! Haha, sucka! (j/k!!)

Oh, and just as a footnote: the highbeam stalk is on the left side of my steering wheel, while the cruise control is on the right side! Duh, silly me! *teehee* =)

Random news day!

Check this out: Japanese scientist invents 'invisibility cloak'. That is soooo freaking cool! Can you imagine if we had something like that the other day when we were re-enacting scenes from Lord of the Rings???

This is where I'd take and insert a pic of me wearing a bright green blanket cloak, furtively looking around a la Frodo... if I weren't so damn lazy! =D

I have to give props (or whatever people call it nowadays, hehe) to my lil sis to the *insert some insanely high number here*, Steph for being like the first person ever to correctly guess the origin of my AIM SN (and domain name now, muahahaha)! She's smart, talented/artistic, cute, AND used to MUD/play video games! Damn, her bf is a lucky SOB! =)

You know, about my whole family line thing... I kinda feel like Anne Rice's Maharet, who created the Great Family.. where she outlives all her human descendants, but still is around to keep tabs on everyone. ...Well, except I don't suck blood and my hair doesn't regenerate back! Hahaha.

And as if I already wasn't busy enough, I've decided to volunteer for a post-doctorate's research project. I won't get paid, but the research and technology involved is cool, I get good experience and my name published!

Cool thing was, after chatting with the professor, I asked if I still needed to submit my resume, and he said: "No need; I've heard about you from the other professors." Sweet!

Hail to the king, baby!

I went to Gamma Gamma's longggggggggggg meeting tonight, and damn, some things never change! I'll leave it at that. ;p

Meng decided to nominate me for spring 2003 pledge class namesake as a joke... The annoying part came when I actually was asked to leave the room so they could discuss the nominations, including mine!

It was all in good fun though, so as I made my way out, I turned and shouted: "Arghhh... I can't believe you're seriously making me get up and leave! I better win namesake now, shooooot!"

I didn't win though... I was robbed, I tell ya! ;) I was this close to following my pimp mentor's footsteps, too! (Hi Gil!) It's all good though, I know everyone wants some of The Beefcake! Hahaha.

I'm upset that I missed The Real World tonight. =(

Why are you so stupid?

I still get amazed at how incredibly rude and/or stupid some people are. There's this one girl in my CS classes, and she always leaves her phone on! Every class that I've been in with her, it never fails to loudly ring. So everyone has to wait around for her to fumble in her bag to turn it off...

You'd think that after 3+ semesters of annoyed, dirty looks from her professors and classmates, she'd learn her lesson, eh? Is it that hard for the brain to register: "Entering classroom. Hmm. Must turn off phone, or set to silent mode."?! Dumbass. *sigh*

Found this interesting tidbit from Dave about Spawns of Satan, aka telemarketers:

Special software dials numbers, at which point one of three things can happen:
1) Someone answers "Hello" and there is a pause, after which the phone call is passed to a live operator. When this happens, your number is added to the list of people who answer.
2) An outgoing message on a machine picks up. An operator or automated playback machine leaves a message or the call is dropped. When this happens, your number is added to the list of valid phone numbers.
3) A phone number that is disconnected or no longer in service will result in that three-note "doo-doo-doo". The call is dropped and your number is not added to any more lists. Your number is considered invalid.

The solution? According to Wired Magazine and some other sources, by adding that aforementioned three note sound before your outgoing message. It may be a hassle explaining why that sound is there to your friends and family, but it's almost worth it if it works. Supposedly, you can edit the clip down to just the first note and it will still work.

Wow... so even when I pick up the phone and immediately hang up, or let the machine answer these calls, I'm screwing myself. Damn those sneaky bastards to hell!!! =(

Finally... Mike Morla, Albert and I had a blast re-enacting scenes from The Two Towers, with yours truly playing the role of Gollum. (and doing a damn fine job, if I say so myself!) Pure comedy, you had to be there. ;p

Hello World!

OMFG, I'm finally done!!! After spending countless hours and days configuring my server, setting up the various applications, and debugging frustrating bug after bug, you see the fruits of my labor! There's still some work left to, but they're mostly minor UI kind of changes.

If you want a better idea of what building this site entailed, check out the About Me link on the left. =)

Now that this hell is behind me, I can whup some ass in Warcraft 3 again concentrate on school and APO stuff! I also have some new DVD/VCDs to watch: Hero, Band of Brothers, The Two Towers, and Chicago. Just need the free time...*sigh*

APO has been taking up a lot of my time (and driving gas ;)) lately, but I welcome the added work and involvement. There's still so much left to do! In the meantime, keep track of Section 4 activities (largely from a service perspective) via the forums and calendar!

Finally, leave me some feedback!!! With comments set up, in addition to the email and AIM links on the left, you have no excuse! If you don't at least say "hi," and I know you read my site, I guarantee that I will bite/punch you the next time I see you! ;D
